Bio
I'm an author, political commentator, producer, and the voice for social injustice, equal rights for women and immigration. I'm also an advocate for people who can't speak for themselves.
I realized at a young age that television news was a lifelong passion of mine. Born in Washington, DC, my parents moved the family back to Nigeria when I was 6 years old. At 8yrs old, I was writing plays and appearing on a TV show called, “Children’s Variety,” and “Kiddies Avenue,” every Saturday morning. At that young age, the producers of the show noticed my creative tendency by selecting many of my innovative ideas for the show. At that point, my calling to be in the world of communications was planted, and later to be nurtured.
My employment in the field of broadcast journalism spans various media entities, including NBC 4 Washington DC, PBS, FEMA Recovery Channel, DCTV, Montgomery Community Media, and The United Negro College Fund Special Programs TV.
As a television producer and News Reporter for the past 10yrs, I've had the privilege of covering stories that appeal to an international audience. I was instrumental in mobilizing the Nigerian youth in the Washington DC area, who marched from the White House to the World Bank in protest against the Fuel Subsidy Removal in Nigeria, which caused gas prices to spike from $1.70 to over $3.50 per gallon. I also did a news story on the protest, which aired on stations in the DC area, reaching over 200,000 homes.
I covered the Boko Haram protest, which took place in front of the Nigerian Embassy in Washington DC, which was aired on television stations in DC, and in Nigeria. In addition, I am a freelance U.S. correspondent for Battabox.com, Nigeria’s most exciting news and entertainment channel based in Lagos, and the Communications Consultant for The African Immigrant Caucus, a growing network of African immigrant institutions that have come together to effect change through the power of numbers, giving Africans in the diaspora a voice.
I have a BA in Broadcast Journalism from Howard University, MA in Strategic Communication from American University, and a licensed esthetician in MD, VA, and NY.
